Life IS SO EASY!!! (positive thinking, right?)

I am all about positive thinking. I took a course on it last spring and I really think that how we feel about life, for the most part, depends upon our thinking.

Well, lately I've forgotten this and in my opinion... life has been hard.

I read this quote today and it struck me. I need to change my thinking!

Life is as easy
or as hard
as you think it is.

What if we just
pretended
that life was easy?
- Jonathan Lockwood Huie

I need to revert back to my childhood when I was pretty good at playing pretend :)

Power of words

So, a friend had this on her blog, and she got it from another friend... it's being passed around. But, I loved it so much I wanted to post it as well!

Words from the mind speak volumes. I know I sometimes judge people like I judge a book by it's cover, but once I get to know them I could care less where they've been or what job they have... or even who they know! I get so turned off by people who try to impress upon me how important they are because they work for "so and so". Or because they went to some university. Or because they could tie their shoe when they were two!

Words in general speak volumes... but so do our actions. How kind are you to the person who might be trying your patience? How do you respond to a child who's having a meltdown? How do you respond to someone who hurts your feelings? In my opinion, these words, and our actions that accompany them, speak more than anything we can accomplish temporaly in this world.... and we'll be remembered more for how we treat/speak to others than we will for whatever we end up doing. The quote above speaks to our knowledge and how interesting of a person we are to talk to, but I'd like to extend the idea of "words" to include our actions as well. As my mom always said: "You can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk?"

See mom, I really was listening some of the time!

Joy... Eternal JOY!

I'll spare you the details of the extreme uncertainty in the immediate future of my life right now... because really, everyone goes through it at one point... or many points in life. One of mine just happens to be right now! :)

However, I did want to post the following parts of two scriptures I read today because they REALLY stuck out to me and I wanted to think about it some more.

Hebrews 12: 1-2: "...and let us run with cpatience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the aauthor and bfinisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him cendured the cross, despising the dshame, and is set down at the right hand of the ethrone of God."

Okay - so patience. Yep, that's a good reminder because I tend to be the type "A" personality that wants things now... and I want them my way now as well!

(side-note: Have you seen "500 days of Summer"? Well, I didn't like the movie for a few personal reasons, but I can see why others like it. Anyway, I am like the main character who has my own perception and view of how things will go, when reality is a FAR cry from it! Do you remember that part in the movie where they did the split screen? Yep -that's what I am talking about! My life is basically like that split screen every day! :)

Anyway, back to the scripture... so good reminder for me to be patient and remember, yet again, that the Lord really is in control and that I need to endure the long road... not just the short sprint of today and tomorrow.  There have been times when I've done this short sprint on my own... or have tried to at least because I want it MY way... when in reality it has NEVER, EVER worked! No benefits in doing that for me... only complete exhaustion and a deep need to return to humility

But, here's the part that REALLY caught my eye. "who for the joy that was set before him cendured the cross," ... the word "JOY". My Elder Brother and Savior KNEW of the JOY He and all of us would feel if we ran patiently, remained faithful and utilized the Atonement He so willingly gave us. Joy... JOY. That is what I want most in life. Eternal Joy as a matter of fact. And, I do truly believe it's possible and reachable! Today is a speck in the picture of eternity. I need to keep that in perspective.

How grateful, truly grateful I am for the scriptures!!
